Spring is on the way!
Hello Friends,
We hope that your Winter is going well. It has been more of a wintry Winter than the past few years, for sure. The good news is that there are only 30 days left until the Spring Equinox!
There's a lot going on the farm even though the plants and trees are still asleep. We have been planning and ordering for the growing season ahead, and interviewing candidates to fill our last two seasonal steward positions.
Our large animal vet paid us a visit last week, and it looks like we may be expecting 5 lambs in early April! Fern and Dahlia are having twins, and Violet is having a single. You can see Violet's big belly in the photo below.
We are happy to report that our maple syrup production is off to a good start, and the very first flow has notes of butter toffee. Since it's the beginning of maple sugaring season, this batch of syrup is considered Grade A Light Amber in color, and lighter in flavor than it will become as the season progresses. We have a limited number of bottles, here's the product link below:

Our Farm Production Steward Martha, has also been busy bottling new herbal tea batches including our Winter Solstice Tea, and single leaf tea varieties like Fig Leaf tea (delicious and healthy), as well as my new personal favorite Calm Tea (it will be available on the store as soon as the new label is completed). It has our Mojito Mint, Holy Basil and Lemon Verbena. It's a great caffeine free way to stay hydrated throughout the day, instead of drinking plain water, and has such a tranquil effect on those hectic days.
We are down to just a few CSA shares, and although it's hard to imagine all of the beautiful flowers with snow and ice on the ground we also have a few shares left of both of our Flower Subscriptions. We send deep gratitude to those of you who have already signed up.
I know that many of you are concerned about egg availability and pricing. Suffice it to say, that buying local and knowing your farmer's growing practices is more important than ever. Our chickens, ducks and geese are raised out in the woods with free range access (we call it tree range), and fed soy free organic layer feed. Their eggs are not only healthy and delicious, but they are also beautiful to behold. They do say that you eat with your eyes first! If you've never tried duck eggs we suggest adding one to your regular chicken egg scramble. Trust us, they take it to a whole new level. Also, did you know that duck eggs are better for baking than chicken eggs? Their composition with a larger yolk and less water allows baked goods to rise higher. Speaking of baked goods, we are still offering free delivery within 10 miles of the farm until our farm store opens in April.
Wishing you a blessed week ahead friends. Spring is right around the corner.
Sincerely,
Michele & the Maranatha Farm Team
