Pullets, Pop-up Farm Market, & Annual Farm Days event

Hello Friends,

I hope that you enjoyed this beautiful Sunday.  Last week was another busy week, and we are just getting warmed up for an even busier week ahead.  Here's the latest:

We welcomed six new Olive Egger pullets to the big chicken coop this week.  Pullets are young hens between the ages of 4 weeks and up to a year old.  Pullets begin laying eggs between 16 and 24 weeks of age, and our new girls will lay an egg that is khaki green in color (we are so excited to see).  Some of you have asked what pullet eggs are.  They are chicken eggs laid by our younger hens.  They tend to be smaller than our normal chicken eggs, which is why we charge less for them.  We like to refer to them as "practice" eggs.  The size of their eggs will get larger over the next year.  They are just as delicious and nutritious as the eggs from our older hens.

Our sheep barn is coming along nicely.  The roof and concrete were poured this past week, and the siding is also going up quickly.  The footings for our solar array were also completed.   It's cool to see how the solar table will be additional shelter for the flock.  The  Stars and Stripes Construction Team are doing beautiful work, and amazingly fast to get the barn completed so we can welcome the sheep to their new home next month.

We have a new collaboration item in the store this week in anticipation of the Fourth of July Holiday.  Snatchco Fabs has done it again.  Kyle, our favorite 3D printing expert, has created two different fun, sustainable Fourth of July party favors for all of your Fourth of July celebrations. They can be used as a cake topper, or for children to hold at parades and fireworks displays. Produced from PLA, a corn based plastic, this item is fully biodegradable. What a great opportunity to begin the conversation about the meaning of the words "biodegradable" and "sustainable" with the children in our lives.

This Wednesday is the launch of our CSA.  We will be sending a separate email to our CSA members with more details by Tuesday.

We are excited to announce that we are going to have a table at a local pop-up Farmers Market with Flowers by the River in Califon this Thursday, June 13th from 2:30-5pm.  The address is 74 Main St, Califon, NJ 07830.  Please stop by and say hi!

Also, please mark your calendars for the Ethos Farm to Health annual Farm Days event, which will take place on Sept 14th and 15th at their historic, 342-acre regenerative farm in Long Valley, NJ. We are proud to have a booth at this incredible Regenerative Agriculture event that is changing the landscape of agriculture in our region, and promotes the concept that food is medicine.

This year, they have another roster of luminary speakers, including Chef AJ, Alan Goldhamer, Liz Carlisle, Mary Berry, John Lieu, Andrew Chignell, Dr. Ron Weiss, and Saul Bautista.

Don’t miss this opportunity to tap into a thriving community of like-minded people, enjoy delicious plant-based food, and participate in mindful activities.   We hope to see you there.  Tickets are on sale now, and early bird ends June 30th.
